When to apply

Applications open in early August of the year before admission.

We encourage you to submit your application as early as possible to avoid missing any deadlines. Early submission also allows time for us to request additional information if needed for assessment.

Undergraduate and postgraduate courses

You can apply for courses that start at different times of the year in a single application. For example, you might apply for a course beginning in Semester 1 and another commencing in Semester 2 within the same application.

Your application remains valid for the entire admission year.

Applications close in November of the same year the courses begin.

TAFE SA courses

Check the key dates for information on application opening dates and deadlines.

For some highly popular courses with large numbers of applicants, TAFE SA may make offers on a first-come, first-served basis, based on the date and time your application is submitted. We recommend registering a mySATAC account before the application cycle opens, so you can complete the initial steps in advance and submit your application as soon as possible once applications open.

  • Note for current Year 12 students

If you are a current Year 12 student, you will need your candidate ID number (provided by the board of studies for your qualification) to apply for undergraduate courses

Providing your candidate ID number ensures that:

    • You are charged the correct processing fee
    • SATAC can access your Year 12 results from your board of studies
  • Seeking special consideration of an undergraduate application

If you are an undergraduate applicant and have been impacted by circumstances or a condition that has significantly affected your previous studies and limited your capacity to reflect your true academic potential, you may request special consideration as part of the SATAC application process.

To do this, you must complete a confidential questionnaire providing details of your request. The questionnaire and instructions can be downloaded inside your application.

    ⚠ Important:

    • Current Year 12 students cannot request special consideration through SATAC.
    • Year 12 students in South Australia or the Northern Territory can seek consideration from the SACE Board.
    • Year 12 students in other states should seek special consideration from their state board of studies.
  • Note for TAFE SA applicants

To enrol in a TAFE SA course, you must be 16 years old and not enrolled in school.

If you are under 16, you can still apply through SATAC, but you will need parental or guardian consent. Please contact SATAC before starting an online application.

    In South Australia:

    • Young people aged 6 to 16 are of compulsory school age and must be enrolled in full-time school.
    • Young people aged 16 and 17 must be in full-time education or training, or employed full-time.
  • Note for applicants using STAT results

If you are sitting, or have previously sat, the STAT, you must do one of the following:

    1. Claim the STAT in the relevant section of your application and provide your STAT Candidate Number from ACER; or
    2. Return to your application to claim the STAT if you did not do so when you first applied; or
    3. Attach a copy of your official test results (clearly showing your STAT Candidate Number) to your application via the Documents page.
