The Skills for Tertiary Admission Test (STAT) is a pathway into tertiary study. It’s designed for people who don’t have formal qualifications or whose past results may not be competitive enough to receive an offer.
The STAT is an aptitude test that looks at a range of skills considered important for success in tertiary study.
SATAC’s partner institutions use the STAT Multiple Choice (MC) version. This is a two-hour online test that assesses verbal and quantitative reasoning skills.
The STAT Written English test is not used for entry to courses through SATAC.
You can sit the STAT as a pathway to enter most undergraduate, TAFE SA, or higher education courses.
You might consider sitting the STAT if:
If you are eligible and competitive enough to apply with another qualification, you do not need to sit the STAT.
If you are unsure whether to sit the STAT, contact SATAC for advice before booking a test sitting.
To use the STAT to support your SATAC application, you must book a STAT sitting through ACER.
Have questions about the STAT? Check out our frequently asked questions – your answer may already be there. If not, get in touch with us – we’re here to help.

Check the selection rules for undergraduate admission pathways for more detailed information.
You can also use your STAT results to meet the admission requirements for TAFE SA higher education courses.
Important: Eligibility rules may differ for interstate institutions. If you plan to use a STAT score to apply to a course at an interstate university, check your eligibility with the institution or the relevant tertiary admissions centre in that state.
