  • What are Equity Scholarships?

    Equity Scholarships are university-funded payments. They support students who are experiencing financial hardship.

  • What scholarships are available?

    SATAC assesses applicants for the Adelaide University Access Scholarship. 

    You can apply for this scholarship through SATAC if you: 

    • Have an to begin at Adelaide University
    • Are an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen
    • Can demonstrate financial barriers to accessing post-secondary study

    Applicants who are continuing their study from previous semesters, undertaking or online study, or applying as international students should contact the university directly for advice.

  • Will all eligible applicants receive a scholarship?

    As there may be more applicants than scholarships, meeting the criteria does not guarantee a scholarship. 

    SATAC uses Adelaide University’s selection criteria to determine the order. 

  • Will I have to pay tax on my scholarship?

    Check the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website for information about scholarships and tax. The website includes a tool to help you check whether your scholarship is tax exempt.

  • What scholarships are available for First Nations students?

    Adelaide University offers a range of scholarships and grants to First Nations students. Visit Adelaide University for more information about these scholarships.

    SATAC's other participating institutions also offer a range of scholarships and grants for First Nations students. Contact the First Nations student services or scholarships office at your for more information. You can find helpful links on SATAC’s Financial Assistance for Students page.

  • Who can I contact if I have any questions?

    Before the , contact SATAC for advice. After the census date, contact the Adelaide University scholarships office for information. 

  • What information will I need to complete my Equity Scholarships application?

    You will need your SATAC undergraduate application reference number to start your application. This can be found in your offer letter or in mySATAC.

    If you receive a Commonwealth means-tested income support payment, you will need either:

    • Your Centrelink Customer Reference Number (CRN)
    • Your Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) file number 

    The CRN or DVA file number must be your own, not your parent's or partner's. 

    If you do not receive a Commonwealth means-tested support payment, you will need the names, dates of birth and income details for the last two financial years for all family members (including partners) in your household. 

  • Why can't I select the ‘Submit’ button?

    You must complete and save all sections listed in black in the left-hand menu of your application. Once every section shows a green tick or circle, the ‘Submit’ button will become active.

  • Will SATAC confirm they received my application?

    Yes. You will receive an acknowledgement email for your Equity Scholarship application. If you do not receive it within two days, please contact SATAC.

  • What if my circumstances or contact details change after I apply?

    If your circumstances or contact details have changed, you will need to update them. To access your application, go to My Application and log in. 

    If your name is incorrect or has changed, email SATAC or submit an online enquiry form. Be sure to include your SATAC Equity Scholarships reference number in your message.

    If you applied for a Centrelink benefit after submitting your application, you can add your CRN or DVA file number by logging in to your application. 

    If your CRN, DVA file number or income information is incorrect, you can change it online.

  • What if I don't know my Customer Reference Number (CRN)?

    If you do not have any recent correspondence from Centrelink, you will need to contact them to get your CRN.

  • What Centrelink benefits qualify as means-tested income support payments?

    A means-tested Centrelink payment is one that is subject to an income and assets test (e.g. Youth Allowance). Common payments are listed in the table below.

    Notes:

    • Family Tax Benefit Part A and/or B do not qualify as means-tested support payments for an Equity Scholarship application.
    • You must be receiving the benefit in your own name, not in the name of a parent of partner.
  • What will SATAC do with my Centrelink data?

    SATAC uses your Centrelink data to check eligibility for Equity Scholarships. We will not access, use, change, disclose or keep information or data about any Centrelink customer (including the Customer Reference Number or CRN) except as required to perform our official duties in assessing scholarship eligibility.

    SATAC will only request data from Centrelink if you consent to us doing so in your application. If you do not provide consent, you will need to provide income history documentation.

  • How do I claim a Centrelink benefit?

    Contact Centrelink for information about applying for a Centrelink benefit.

  • What income history information do I need to provide?

    If you receive a Commonwealth means-tested income support payment, you won't need to provide information about your income history.

    If you do not receive a Commonwealth means-tested income support payment, you will need to:

    • Provide the name and date of birth of everyone in your household/family, including children and/or siblings
    • List the past two financial years’ income for each individual (yourself included)

    SATAC will request evidence of the income details you provide.

    For those listed with an income of $18,201 or above, you will need to provide certified copies of the relevant Australian Tax Office Notice of Assessment.

    For those listed with an income of $0 to $18,200, you will need to provide a statutory declaration stating that the income you have listed is true and correct.

    You must also provide documentary proof of any partnership or trust income entered.

  • When are offers made?

    Adelaide University will send offers after the census date. 

    If you don't receive a scholarship offer, the university or SATAC will notify you after the census date. 

  • How do I receive payments?

    Adelaide University will provide information about the payments process. Scholarship payments will be made by the University, but no payments will be issued before the census date in each scholarship period.

  • If I am awarded an Equity Scholarship, do I need to apply in future years?

    No. If you meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship and the scholarship is offered, you won't need to apply again.

    You might need to provide documentation each year to check your continuing eligibility. Adelaide University will contact you to provide this information.

  • What other scholarships are available?
